Pictou Island. |

Pictou
Island is the largest island in the Northumberland Strait. Situated
halfway between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, it is
about 6 miles long, by 1 1/2 miles at its widest point. The
closest town to Pictou Island on the mainland is the historic
town of Pictou, better known as the Birthplace of New Scotland.

Notice: Small Propane and Gas runs for July 18 and August
15
Containers to be taken to the ferry on Pictou Island Friday
evening. Containers to be of approved type and clearly marked
with name and contents. Anyone wishing to purchase gas from
the Harbour Authority of Caribou must contact Helen MacKeil
485-4893 to set up an account. Anyone who wants to fill their
own containers can pick them up Friday evening and deliver
them back on Saturday morning by 9:00 AM. Otherwise, please make
arrangements with John Lakenman to have them filled.

Notice: Vehicle Transport To and From Pictou Island
The Pictou Island Community Association and the NS Department of Transportation
and Public Works have agreed that before transporting vehicles to Pictou Island,
the Ferryman, Gregg MacDonald, will, in addition to his fee, collect and environmental fee of $300.00
payable to the Pictou Island Community Association.
This fee will be held "in trust" and used for the removal of the vehicles from
the island. If, at the end of its life, the vehicle can be driven ON or OFF the barge,
the association will refund the owner $200.00 and pay the ferryman his fee of $100.00.
Vehicles to be signed over to Gregg MacDonald for immediate disposal on the mainland.
NO VEHICLE WILL BE TRANSPORTED TO THE ISLAND UNTIL THIS FEE IS PAID.
